Position Description
The Office of Student Services at Arkansas Tech University is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Public Safety. This is a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month position.

Primary Job Functions:
The Director of Public Safety plans, organizes, directs and administers the overall public safety initiatives of the campus community based on sound community policing concepts. The successful candidate will provide leadership ensuring that law enforcement, security services, communications, and parking controls are appropriate and responsive to maintaining the safety and security of the university.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct, supervise, lead and actively participate in the operations and activities of the Department of Public Safety including maintenance of department records and ensuring all officers’ training is kept current
- Prepare and oversee the department’s annual operating budget
- Direct confidential investigations, internal and external, taking into account the sensitivity of such investigations and the need to protect victims
- Maintain mutual-aid agreements with neighboring law enforcement agencies
- Develop and maintain departmental rules and procedures for officer conduct
- Prepare job descriptions and be responsible for the recruiting, hiring, evaluating, and administering discipline for department employees
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Current certification as an Arkansas law enforcement officer or a state meeting Arkansas law enforcement standards
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in criminal justice, public or business administration, or a related field
- Familiar with information required by state and federal agencies such as the Clery Act
- Ten years law enforcement and 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience
- Exposure in law enforcement, crime prevention, physical security and emergency preparedness with a higher education environment including relevant technology, such as police and emergency communications systems
- Leadership in law enforcement experience in a campus environment
